We have a variety of opportunities for our children at Franklin Baptist:
Child Care – things a parent needs to know
Children from birth through pre-k are an important part of our church family.
Child care is provided for all services.
So that we can locate you easily in case of an emergency, please sign in and take a pager.
Be sure to let us know if your child has any food allergies, or if there are any special considerations for your child that would make the time with us more meaningful.
Please return the pager to the sign-in area when you pick up your child.
Parent/child dedications take place within the context of our Sunday 11:00 a.m. worship. This special dedication service is not only an opportunity for the parents to commit to raising their child in the ways of Christ, it is also a reminder and covenant that our faith community will assist in the spiritual growth of the child.
Children’s Discipleship Class
Children who desire to take the first step in their spiritual journey, are invited to this class in which they learn about salvation and Baptism. Children who have recently made faith decisions and are preparing for Baptism, or who are asking “all the right questions,” are encouraged to attend this three-session class.
The Children’s Choirs sing regularly in worship; they also present a Christmas musical at the 11:00 worship service and at The Village at Woods Edge retirement community. Music Friends, a choir for children in pre-k and kindergarten, meets at 6:30 on Wednesday nights. The Children’s Choir is for singers beginning at first grade; their rehearsals are on Wednesday nights from 6:00-6:30 p.m., September to May. Children in third grade and older may audition to participate in the Virginia Baptist All State Choirs, and Franklin Baptist typically has several singers who enjoy this challenging and fun musical experience.
The Children’s Chimes Choir teaches the basics of ringing chimes and reading music. This choir also introduces the children to Orff Instruments. Membership is open to any child beginning at first grade. Rehearsals are on Wednesdays from 5:00-5:30 p.m., September to May.
Children learn about Cooperative Baptist Fellowship missionaries and their work around the globe through music, art, games, food, and story-telling. Groups meet on Wednesday night (September to May):
Mission Friends: pre-k and kindergarten, 6:00 – 6:30 p.m. Mission Kids: beginning at first grade, 6:30 – 7:00 p.m.
In this four day summer camp for grades 3 – 6, children are “transported” to new places to help them learn how people live across the globe and how we can share God’s grace with them. Cooperative Baptist Fellowship missionaries are part of the camp experience at Eagle Eyrie Baptist Conference Center. There is a fee to attend this camp, and scholarships are available.
Virginia Baptist Music and Worship Arts Camp is hosted at Eagle Eyrie, the Virginia Baptist Retreat Center, located near Lynchburg, VA. Participants have a fun-filled week of choir, worship, and class choices (handbells, puppets, interpretive movement, banners, worship leadership, stomp, guitar, piano, etc). Music Camp is for children in elementary and middle school, and is a wonderful opportunity to make lots of new friends! The camp is normally scheduled for the second or third week in July. There is a fee to attend this camp, and scholarships are available.
Vacation Bible School
Vacation Bible School (VBS) is a part of our spiritual formation curriculum for children age three through the completion of sixth grade. Taking place for five evenings during the summer, our VBS theme changes annually.
